festivals are one of the best ways to understand the culture, tradition and lifestyle of any place. tripura is no different. the festivals here are celebrated with lot of pomp and glory. the major festivals of tripura are:

• garia puja celebrated in april in which people worship bamboo pole which symbolizes lord garia (god of livestock and wealth) with flowers and garland. during the festival no one crosses the shadow of god garia they fear it might annoy him.
• kharchi festival celebrated in july is one of the most popular festival in tripura in which people worship 14 different gods including earth. there are also sacrifices of animal during this festival.
• neermahal festival celebrated in august and december for three days on rudra sagar lake. a boat race is the main draw here.
• diwali festival celebrated in october/november in tripura sundari temple in udaipur to pay homage to mata kali.  a grand fair is held here during the festival
• pous sankranti festival celebrated in january on the occasion of uttarayan sankranti during which people take a dip in gomati river at its place of origin, tirthamukh.
